Situated amid beautiful rolling countryside, Meifod is a very ancient settlement and many of the surrounding hills are topped with earthworks of the Bronze Age and the Roman periods. The village church is dedicated to Saint Tysilio & Saint Mary and is late medieval, although there has been a religious foundation here since 550AD.

The surrounding hills and woodland have a plethora of footpaths and tracks that are open to the public. This book gives routes for various abilities using a combination of these paths. Although most of the walks use Meifod as a starting point, the villages of Pont Llogel, Pontrobert, and Bwlch-y-cibau in and adjacent to the Vyrnwy Valley are also included. There is even a short walk around Meifod village showing a brief history of the principal buildings. Meifod is on the A495 approximately six miles north-west of Welshpool. In the village there is a general store and post office, a bric-a-bac shop, a garage and a car park with public conveniences.br>
A detailed description and a map enable each walk to be followed without difficulty. However, please remember that changes may occur at any time. The area contains much woodland and during tree-felling precautionary diversions may be provided. The location of each walk is shown on the back cover and a summary of their key features is also given. By using a combination of these walks it is possible to walk from Pont Llogel in the west of the valley, through the villages of Dolanog, Pontrobert, Meifod, and continue to Bwlch-y-cibau in the east. The return walk can use a different route.br>
I's a great area which will more than repay your efforts.
