Llandrindod Wells, the county town of Powys, has a wealth of Victorian and Edwardian buildings, as well as formal and informal parks and gardens. A network of recently improved rights of way surround the town, connecting with the beauty spots of Cefnllys and Alpine Bridge, the woodlands to the east and north of the town, the remains of the largest Roman fort in Wales and across the hill to the nearby village of Howey. Builth Wells can be reached by a varied 10 mile walk that includes the Carneddau Hills. There are also walks around Builth Wells and the hills to the south. The village of Llanwrthwl, between Newbridge-on-Wye and Rhayader, provides the starting point for two circular walks and another route leads from the village of Llanyre to Rhayader. A wonderful area.
