Travelling between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Betws-y-Coed you pass through the Lledr Valley. Whether your journey is by train or by car, the soaring mountain tops, ancient forests and lush water-meadows of this unique valley beckon. It is the setting for a spectacular castle and ancient church, and is traversed by a famous Roman road. The walks in this book range in locality from the north of the valley, where the Lledr and Conwy rivers converge, to the south, where the infant Lledr emerges from the mountains above Blaenau Ffestiniog. They are readily accessible from the village of Dolwyddelan, while the larger centres of Betws-y-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog are just a short distance away using the railway line, between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog, or the road.
